Founded in 2010, CLEAR is a biometric security company with a mission to create frictionless experiences. The organization partners with airports, stadiums, and entertainment venues to provide a seamless screening process for its members. While reevaluating their New York headquarters, CLEAR decided to relocate from Midtown to two floors at 85 10th Avenue. TPG was engaged to design a crisp, modern office to empower CLEAR’s growing staff.
TPG embraced CLEAR's culture to develop a strategy for the office that recognizes, respects, and celebrates the plurality of perspectives at play when encouraging staff back into the workplace. Activity areas are centralized around an interconnecting staircase, establishing a deliberate pattern of circulation around the core of the office that ensures the building's East-to-West exposure remains unobstructed. High-impact, hospitality-inspired communal spaces branch off from the stair on either side, providing space for collaborative touch-downs and all-hands town hall meetings. A coffee bar and pantry sit opposite lounge-style arrangements on both floors, situated to allow for a variety of interpersonal connections at varying scales. Complementing the industrial context of the building and CLEAR's elevated but understated brand, TPG aligned material selections and color schemes with spatial intent. Lush jewel tones, surprising patterns, and tactile textures define these more active zones of the workplace. This palette is balanced by a crisp, modern neutrality in the open work areas, which supports CLEAR's free-address model. The open environment has lockers, hoteling stations, and minimal perimeter offices to preserve the waterfront views. Additionally, CLEAR’s office has a testing lab for product ideation, and a hardware lab to bring their creations to life.
Two libraries are tucked into the floorplate to serve those seeking respite or quiet, heads-down concentration. Fixtures and finishes are pared down to mitigate visual distractions, drawing further contrast from high-activity zones. Bridging the different space types are nods to CLEAR's brand ethos, which come together to create an undercurrent of energy reminiscent of its logo that ripples out from its first reference at reception.
