Located on the 14th floor of 100 Pearl Street, Open Squash features over 21,000-square-feet of state-of-the-art fitness facilities. A nonprofit organization and one of the city’s only nonprofit squash clubs, Open Squash is on a mission to make the game of squash and all its health and social benefits accessible to all; its new location brings that mission directly into the heart of one of Manhattan's busiest commercial districts.
Design firm Bricault Design in collaboration with TPG Architecture [as Architect of Record], developed Open Squash's 100 Pearl Street facility which promotes health, social connection, and a love for the sport. The double-height space is complete with eight brand new squash courts imported from Germany, including one taller, all-glass court that is equipped with advanced audio-visual technology for interactive training programs, coaching sessions and host tournaments. A welcoming and engaging space for squash enthusiasts and spectators alike, the club also offers the convenience of gym equipment such as free weights and access to locker rooms, cozy spectator areas, and a café.
Located just behind Open Squash's main reception, its café doubles as an additional amenity space for 100 Pearl Street––capitalizing on its central location within the building's stack to invite both tenants and workers from the surrounding neighborhood into the world of squash. Understanding the potential drawbacks of the club's positioning, the design team worked closely with engineers and project partners to strategically conceal mechanical equipment and address acoustical challenges, ensuring the excitement of the sport would not infringe upon its neighbors. Open Squash's vibrant new facility fosters a sense of unity among lovers of the game, providing an inclusive environment for enthusiasts to share their passion, while serving as a bold and exciting way to reimagine commercial office space for a new kind of community.
