Designing a workplace where health, wellness, and technology intersect.

WebMD is an organization where health, wellness, and technology intersect, and the client wanted a workplace that reinforced their brand and culture. WebMD commissioned TPG to develop a strategy for their future office with the goal in mind to increase the efficiency of their workplace. As a proud leader in its industry, the organization sought to inspire their diverse staff to become a more collaborative and visionary community with an entrepreneurial spirit that upholds the missions, vision, and values of the organization while providing world-class service to their clientele. TPG’s Strategy & Innovation Studio was charged with converting WebMD’s organizational goals into design principles that would both integrate health and wellness into the workplace and improve overall efficiency.

As part of the data gathering process, our team engaged the entire WebMD staff in a variety of ways. This included visioning with the Executive Leadership Team, programming interviews, as well as the launch of a company-wide employee survey, to provide employees the opportunity to be heard. Our Strategy Studio translated the company’s goals into design principles, or tangible methods of achieving those goals through space. Using an active design, planning adjacencies were specifically designed vertically to encourage people to walk up and down the stairs several times a day. Areas of respite and refreshment were also incorporated into the design, to encourage employees to be active throughout the day. Similarly, a food strategy was introduced as a company amenity to align with their healthy culture and help attract and retain top talent.
