TPG’s association with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) began modestly more than 10 years ago with a small expansion to their Outpatient Center in Uniondale, New York, very close to our Long Island office. Our team surpassed the client’s expectations after the successful completion of this first project. Our relationship with the client grew organically, and the client soon began asking us to assist them with other healthcare projects. In 2013, when the Hospital for Special Surgery decided to do a major expansion to their Uniondale clinic, we were again asked to assist them with this project, which included adding an MRI suite, 3 x-ray rooms, and a pain management suite. This significant renovation would result in the facility doubling in size, allowing the client to expand their patient-centered care and services in Long Island.
Our work with HSS further developed, as they began renovating their main campus in Manhattan. When they decided to convert their 8-story research building to an Outpatient Center, better known as The Pavilion, we were again brought on for their project. We spent the next 2 years exploring a number of uses for this strategically located facility – literally designing whole floors based on a bare-bones list of requirements. Within this space, our healthcare team designed a variety of medical spaces including: X-ray and operating rooms, a new lobby and waiting areas, space for imaging and radiology, medical suites for orthopedic surgeons, and an area dedicated to complex joint reconstruction and replacement, among others.
Over the years, we have continued to work with the HSS on renovations of their East River Professional Building, Belaire Building, Main Hospital Building, and Dana Building. Our firm’s ability to exceed the clients’ needs and successfully handle complex mechanical challenges, has allowed our relationship to flourish. It is this agility and our ability to maximize usage of the most challenging of spaces and convert them to dramatically beautiful and functional facilities that keep our thriving relationship growing.
