How a tech company created unity through their office design.

Amplify is an education company that develops digital platforms to provide assessment and analytics for data-driven instruction and next-generation digital curriculums. Located at 55 Washington Street in Brooklyn, the company was previously separated across four partial floors within the building. TPG was engaged to reorganize all of their business units onto one floor, helping to build a sense of culture and togetherness across the company.

Though united on one floor, Amplify’s business units serve different functions, so creating a visual separation between them was important. Our firm’s solution was to create discrete neighborhoods, which are separated by bays of private offices and huddle rooms floating within the space. Flexibility was an important driver in the design, as Amplify anticipates growth over the next several years. The open benching system has no partitions and power is served from the floor, optimizing the company’s ability to add or remove workstations easily.

The building is situated at the base of the Manhattan Bridge, offering sweeping views of Downtown Manhattan. The overall aesthetic of the office embraces its setting and the industrial, loft-like feel of the building, emphasizing exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors, and branded elements throughout the space.
