Atop the historic Toy Center, this year-round beer hall and microbrewery draws on the industrial past of the Flatiron District.

Location New York, NY
Size 6,000 SF
Year 2010

After a successful collaboration with the client on Eataly, TPG was asked to design a rooftop venue that sits atop the famed food hall. The scope included the ground floor entrance, themed elevator and stairs, and roof deck beer garden called La Birreria. TPG worked with the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group and their Italian partners to develop the restaurant and bar which offers craft beers which are brewed on-premises, wines on tap, and a full rustic Italian menu.

The restaurant seats 225 and is equipped with a retractable enclosure that allows it to operate year-round. Our design for La Birreria evokes a 1920s industrial brewery, with brass drum-cymbal inspired light fixtures and copper clad brewing vats set against black subway tiling. Seats at the 12-person bar, which is clad with white Carrara marble, provide spectacular views of the iconic Flatiron and Empire State buildings.
