Macy’s Herald Square Luggage Department Receives Award of Merit
VMSD / Retail Design Institute
The Macy’s Herald Square Luggage Department, designed by TPG Architecture, received the Award of Merit in the New Shop Within an Existing Full-Line or Specialty Department Store category by VMSD / Retail Design Institute (formerly ISP, Institute of Store Planners). The award was announced at the 38th Annual International Store Design Gala at the Times Center Stage in Midtown Manhattan.
TPG Architecture’s expansion and renovation of the Flagship’s Luggage Department makes it a traveler’s destination in its own right. The design aesthetic of the 13,300 square foot department is drawn from airports and transit, with a nod to the 1960’s. Long “runways,” reminiscent of airport luggage conveyors, run the length of the department. Dramatic linear light boxes span the rear wall and feature transit-inspired imagery, while LCD monitors display travel-themed content.
