Updater is a technology company that builds digital tools to help ease the process of moving. Having experienced a rapid growth in personnel, the company outgrew its existing office in the Flatiron District. TPG was commissioned to design the company’s relocation to a new headquarters on the 12th floor of 19 Union Square West.

Spread across a single floor, the new space more than quadruples the size of their previous space and offers sweeping views of Union Square Park. Updater’s culture is defined by pioneering and disruption, and they challenged our firm to create a vibrant space befitting of a tech company on the rise. The design emphasizes the existing architecture to create an airy space defined by pale wood floors, exposed ceilings, and judicious pops of color.

The office includes workstations for 75 employees, as well as several meeting rooms, lounge areas, and informal collaboration stations outfitted with whiteboards. A stadium-seating bleacher, which features a custom comedic mural depicting Updater’s journey, creates a town hall space for company-wide meetings, and video conferencing to support Updater’s growing remote team.
