Implementing international design concepts through local retail projects.

Smythson of Bond Street is a British manufacturer of luxury stationery, leather goods, personalized stationery, and fashion products. Their stores reflect the style of the brand’s products, using simple geometry and sophisticated colors as a backdrop for the display of merchandise.

Our firm was responsible for coordinating the relocation of Smythson’s New York flagship store from 4 West 57th Street to 667 Madison Avenue, located across the street from Barneys’ Madison Avenue flagship. The retail build-out features herringbone stone, wood imported from London, stone and metal display shelving, and floor-to-ceiling millwork hand-painted by artists from London. Subsequently, we implemented a second location in New York at the Westfield World Trade Center’s Oculus retail mall. Both successful projects incorporated the current overseas design concept.

With the Smythson team stationed abroad in London, our firm’s role quickly expanded beyond the typical retailer-consultant relationship. Having earned the team’s trust and respect, we were tasked with truly becoming an extension of the Smythson team as their stateside eyes and ears.
